Excerpts from notes taken during the journey :

First stay in Reunion Island. It’s February and the heat is overwhelming for someone like me who comes from the North.
Two days in the Gol made me discover a more traditional vision of the island, the strength and power of the family in a space that seems out of time. I had the chance to meet Gramoun Sello, Maloya ambassador in the South of the island.
These first days mark an opportunity to practice stopping, not to think about work. This turns out to be quite difficult.
I listen to the world around me.
Some birds are different and the insects at night are extraordinarily noisy. The rain is impressive when it falls in showers on the corrugated iron roof. The Creole language is just as expressive. I wait a few days before making my first sound recordings
I try to take a step back and enjoy the present moment, in slow motion, getting used to the heat.
Mosquitoes are greedy and they like me particularly well...
For my 29th birthday I went swimming in the ocean.

Hearing is both sight and touch. It is like touch, a physical sensation that we feel, like low frequencies massaging the body or very high frequencies tickling the brain It shares beauty with sight, by visualizing patterns, colors, depth, and positioning in space. Hearing is a sense that connects us to the earth, to the sensitive world, by making air and matter vibrate. Air vibrates, sound moves and sows life.

If you like experimental electronic music that still has an odd groove to it (this is somewhere between broken beat, drum and bass, and techno) you pretty much need this record. It's been one of my standouts of the last few years easily. If you like this, also check out AA Sudd "Pushedd" on Midgar Records which is more sleek, unbelievably sophisticated sound design in this vein. This gets my highest possible recommendation! jonarmst
